MANKATO — Here’s what happened in the local sports scene Saturday.
Boy’s basketball
Mankato Immanuel Lutheran 64 Liberty Christian (Wis.) 47
The road trip to Chippewa Falls proved to be a successful one for Immanuel Lutheran.
Wyatt Lien led the winners with 16 points to go with five steals. Cade Libby had 11 points and eight rebounds. William Lien added 11 points and five assists. Austin Hart had 10 points and eight rebounds. Kaden Kruse also scored 10 points.
Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 70 Jordan 45
Gavin Bauer led the charge for the Bulldogs (16-0) earned a double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds while adding seven steals and five assists. Daulton Bauer finished with 22 points. Gavin Weedman added 10 points. Caleb Quast produced seven points, six rebounds and five assists.
Waseca 69 Minnesota Valley Lutheran 66
Deron Russell led all scorers with 40 points in the win. Wyatt Hager added 10 points. MVL was led by 28 points from Owen Birkholz. Pierson Brau finished with 21 points and nine rebounds.
Renville County West 67 Madelia 56
Tate Becker led the Blackhawks with 21 points. Dalton Tatro earned a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds while adding eight steals. Caden Mullen added 13 points.

Bria Cole earned a double-double for the Eagles with 12 points and 10 rebounds while adding five assists. Claire Caven also earned a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Kylie Walters added 11 points.
Addie Liffvig led all scorers with 21 points. Elyse Ryan added 15 points and Chloe Henn had 11 points.
Waseca 66 Minnesota Valley Lutheran 57
Reese Rodriguez earned a double-double for Waseca with 21 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 6 of 11 from beyond the arc. Ava Miller added 17 points and five boards.
MVL saw Violet Hammer drop a team-best 16 points. Avery Freier added 15 points. Ziva Zahrt tallied 13 rebounds and seven points.
Girl’s hockey
Minnesota River 3 River Lakes 2
Noelle Simonette tallied two goals in the win. Olivia Hader scored a goal. Cristina Cruz, Maren Swenson, Macey Portner, McKenna Andresen and Sophie Tews each had an assist. Annika Magelee turned away 33 of 35 shots in net.
Wrestling
Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton wrestling competed in the St. Croix Lutheran Invitational
The boys team won the 17-team field.
Brady Murphy (139 pounds) and Trenton Huber (189 pounds) went 4-0 to win their respective weight classes.
Finn Root (114 pounds), Brandon Masso (121) and Trey Richards (127) finished second. Charles Adams (172) and Kavan Sheehy (215) each took third. Aiden Gruber (133) and Ben Root (160) were fifth. Otto Root (107), Parker James (145) and Isaac Miller (160) placed sixth.
On the girls side the Grizzlies finished fourth out of 17 teams.
BreAna Masso (112) won her weight class, going 3-0 on the day, beating teammate Payton Miller in the title bout. Anaelyse Skidmore (106) went 2-1 to finish third and Ivy Shaw (124) was fifth after going 4-2.
Swimming and diving
Mankato East and Mankato West duked it out in the True Team section meet. Northfield won the event with 1746.5 points to earn an automatic berth into the True Team state finals at the University of Minnesota.
Mankato West finished second with 1647 points and is on the bubble for an at-large bid for True Team state finals, which was not determined before our deadline. Mankato East was fifth with 1067 points.
West’s 200 freestyle relay team of Ian Ray, John Bittner, Sam Simmons and Isaac Sanderson took first place. The quartet of Sam Kunkel, Simmons, Wyatt Bartell and Corbin Deichman took second.
Wyatt Bartell was third in the 100 yard butterfly, breaking Tanner Sonnek’s team record which stood for 11 years.
Simmons was second in the 100 yard breaststroke and third in the 200 yard individual medley. Deichman was second in the 1 meter dive. Ray was second in the 50 yard freestyle and third in the 100 yard breaststroke. Sanderson finished third in the 100 yard freestyle.
East saw Elliot Bartell win the 100 yard butterfly and take second in the 100 yard backstroke. Elam Asker finished second in the 500 yard freestyle.
The quartet of Elliot Bartell, Nolan Bleck, Seth Pollema and Asker finished third in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
