Cullman, Good Hope, Holly Pond and West Point all competed in Saturday’s inaugural Randy Jones Classic at Jim Boyd Gymnasium.
Cullman took down Corner and West Point beat J.B. Pennington, while Holly Pond and Good Hope fell to Mortimer Jordan and Hartselle, respectively.
The event, however, was put together to honor a beloved member of the West Point community.
Jones, who died in November 2022 following a bout with cancer, coached West Point’s varsity boys for 10 seasons, picking up a county title (2012) and an area championship (2015). He also coached his sons, Ryder and Rylan.
His wife, Regina, led West Point’s varsity girls basketball and volleyball programs for many seasons as well, coaching their daughter, Ryleigh, in the latter sport.
Following West Point’s 68-29 win against J.B. Pennington, Jones’ family took the court for a short ceremony in which Regina was presented a plaque in honor of the late coach.
