GRAYLING — Grayling wrestling was led by Max Huspen, Alex Moore, and Dayton Joseph, going undefeated with 5-0 records during the Grayling Invitational Saturday.
“It was a good day for us, with some injuries and kids being sick right now.” Grayling coach Andy Moore said. “I think if we had our normal lineup, we could have contended for the championship today. We had some wrestlers really step up today, even though they weren’t feeling 100%.”
Zeke Wright went 4-1 for the Vikings, as Grayling was 2-3 overall as a team.
Grayling hosted a 12-team wrestling invitational alongside competitors Atlanta, Gladwin, Grayling, Houghton Lake, Inland Lakes, Ithaca, Lake City, Reed City, Roscommon, Sault Ste. Marie, St. Ignace and Whittemore-Prescott.
The Vikings defeated Atlanta 42-31 and St. Ignace 47-36, falling to Ithaca 47-33, Sault Ste. Marie 41-25 and Reed City 45-29.

Titans compete at Sparta Invitational
Titan freshman Reed Nyland had a great tournament, beating a tough older opponent from Fruitport and finishing the day in sixth place with a 3-2 record in the Sparta Invitational.
Finn O’Brien had another great showing for the Titans, going 4-1 on the day, beating two quality opponents from Grand Rapids Catholic Central and Muskegon Reeths-Puffer.
Matthew Quigley was named MVP for lower weight thanks to his 4-0 record with three pins and a major decision over the Division 2 state runner-up from Plainwell in the finals.
“Kids wrestled really tough today,” TC West head coach Berard Priante said. “Overall, the team wrestled very well today.”
Traverse City St. Francis sophomore Elijah Jaworski finished sixth with a 3-2 record.
Vikings finish sixth at Lapeer
Gaylord finished sixth as a team at the Lapeer Invite Saturday as Jaron Bensinger and Zane Willobee both earned first-place finishes at the 165 and 175 pound division.
Jason Cranick finished second at 157 for the Blue Devils.

Vikings’ Johnson leads bowling event with a 239
The Great Northwest Bowling Conference competed in the second meet of the season.
Cadillac’s Keaston Johnson led the boys competition with a score of 239, and Kyleigh Clayton of the TC Striking Tritons won the girls competition with an individual high score of 163.
