GRAYLING — Elk Rapids had one last chance to put a blemish on Grayling’s Northern Shores Conference record for the 2024 boys soccer season. The Elks took full advantage with a 2-1 victory on the Vikings’ home pitch Thursday.
Elk Rapids (11-6-1, 7-1 Northern Shores) knocked off Grayling (17-2, 11-1 Northern Shores) by a 2-1 final.
Tyler Standfest scored both goals for the Elks, with the game-winning score coming on a free kick with six minutes left in the game.
Elk Rapids head coach Nate Plum gave credit to Jake Garrow and Noah Bogard, who were solid on the backline, as well as Drew Plum, Carter Denoyer and Gavin Hamilton for their top-tier play against Grayling. Jacob McManus had six saves in net.
Jackson Marshall scored Grayling’s lone goal to knot the game at 1-1 in the second half. The Vikings’ keeper Jordan Peters had 10 saves.
The Elks head to Charlevoix to end the regular season, and he Vikings travel to Saginaw Swan Valley for their regular-season finale. Both games are set for Monday.
