BELLAIRE — Traverse City Central senior Quinn Gerber stepped on the gas to win during a giant slalom girls ski race with a time of 54.06 to lead the Trojans against Traverse City West, Petoskey and Cadillac in Big North Conference action Monday at Schuss Mountain.
Monday’s race marked the Trojans’ final home meet at Schuss Mountain.
“I wanted to give it my all for the last home meet at Schuss and prove it for my team,” Traverse City Central senior Kellan Kudary said. “It’s bittersweet racing for the last time there. I’ve grown up training there with my mom (coach Amy Kudary). This was a good ending, and I tried my best … We have to keep the positivity throughout the whole team and continue to create bonds with everyone on the team and make memories.”

Traverse City West teammates Dane Lewandowski and Grady Ellis led the Titans to victory in the boys slalom with times of 1:04.08 and 1:05.18.
Petoskey won the boys giant slalom behind Taylor Keiswetter’s winning time of 49.81 seconds.
Cooper Gerber led Traverse City Central with a fourth-place individual finish in GS during his last race at Schuss.
“I enjoy going to practice with my friends (at Schuss), and my favorite memory was competing in regionals last year,” Cooper Gerber said.

Lake Charlevoix boys win at Crystal Mountain
The Lake Charlevoix boys ski team and Grand Rapids Catholic Central girls took first at the Bryan Groenevelt Memorial Invitational race hosted by the Glen Lake cooperative ski team Monday at Crystal Mountain.
Groenevelt was a local skier and racer who tragically died in a 2016 ski racing accident.
Skiers from Grand Haven, Clare, Glen Lake, Caledonia, Onekama, Lake Charlevoix, Mount Pleasant, Grand Rapids Catholic Central and Harrison all competed.
The Lakers finished third for the boys (96 points) and fourth for the girls (107), with the Onekama girls sixth. The Lake Charlevoix girls team finished seventh overall with 183.5 points.
