LAPEL, Ind. — After reaching heights never seen before already, the Covington girls soccer team wanted to reach one last high on Thursday.
The Trojans, after winning their first-ever sectional title, stepped ahead to face Lapel in an IHSAA regional.
The game was scoreless for most of regulation, but the Bulldogs got a late goal and was able to come away with a 1-0 win.
Covington finished the season with a 12-4-1 record and had won six out of its last seven games, including the sectional championship last weekend against Southmont.
The Southmont game was almost like the Lapel game in that it was scoreless all game and after regulation and over time, the Trojans won 4-3 in the penalty kick round.
Lapel is 18-0 and will play Faith Christian today in a regional championship match in Taylor, Ind. The winner of that game will go on to semi-state action on Oct. 25.
