WATSEKA — In a tight game, it seemed the last team that scored between Oakwood and Watseka would get the win.
And in the end, that was so as the Warriors scored with a minute, 24 seconds left to get a 28-22 win.
Jackson Dudley got things going for the Comets early when he hit Chase Harrison for a 67-yard scoring pass for a 7-0 first quarter lead.
Andrew Shoemaker would hit Quinn Starkey for a 10-yard touchdown pass to tie the game, but Kyler Johnson gave the lead back to the Comets with a 3-yard run. Davincci Lane would score on a 20-yard run and Shoemaker would throw for a two-point conversion for a 14-14 halftime tie.
Lane broke the tie in the third quarter with a 3-yard run and Dennis Goodman had a two-point run for a 22-14 lead, but Johnson ran for his second touchdown of the game on a 4-yard run and Dudley found Harrison to tie the game at 22.
The heroics for the Warriors came when Shoemaker threw a 13-yard pass to Lane.
Dudley ended up with 239 yards passing with Harrison catching nine passes for 188 yards and Johnson ran for 75 yards.
The Comets are 1-2 overall and in the Vermilion Valley Conference and will face Clifton Central in a special Thursday game.
