WESTMONT — Just qualifying for the state meet was a major accomplishment for Schlarman Academy’s Charles Medlin.
The junior took it a step further on Saturday, becoming the first-ever state medalist in school history.
Medlin took 10th in the 100-yard freestyle (45.73 seconds) 11th in the 50 freestyle (20.92 seconds).
In addition to make history for Schlarman, Medlin is also the first boys state place winner for Vermilion County since Danville’s Stan Jackowski was 6th in the 100 freestyle at the 1979 state meet — 46 years ago.
The last state place winner at the girls meet is Gabi Springer, who was 10th in diving at 2018 state meet.
