Voices will soar in celebration this Saturday at the Gospel Worship Festival held at Prayer Room Ministries at 440 Hawley St.
All are welcome to join the event that begins at 3 p.m. and will feature two young singers backed by the Prayer Room’s Jadon Burch on organ, drummer Alex Burch, and Nathan Webster on bass. Brittani McDowell and Ty’Jhonna Brown will take the microphone to sing classic and contemporary gospel music that stirs the soul. Prayer Room Praise Team members Erin Burch, Grady Burch, James Wilson and Helen Dahn will also sing during the day.
Ty’Jhonna Brown is a music teacher in Rochester who graduated from the College of St. Rose in Albany.
Britanni McDowell is a local voice who has been singing during worship her whole life.
Wilson will emcee the event that begins with a prayer service led by Elder Grady Burch. Chicken dinners are available for $20 and include yams, baked macaroni and cheese, potato salad, and rolls.
Wilson said the festival features more music than a Sunday service and is open for anyone to enjoy.
“There won’t be preaching,” he said. “It’s more music and singing. The reason why we do that is for bringing more people out and bringing the community together as one. A lot of people belong to their own separate churches. With the festival, you don’t have to feel like — it’s not my church, I can’t go. Hopefully we can bring souls in that way.”
