BECKLEY, W.Va. — Potomac Valley Post 64 used two big innings and a strong start from Jaxon Hare to defeat Morgantown Post 2, 9-4, in a state tournament elimination game on Friday at Linda K. Epling Stadium.
Potomac Valley (12-10-1) led 2-0 after three innings before putting up a three-spot in the fourth, the key hit a Blake Jacobs single that scored two.
Post 64 tacked on four more runs in the seventh to pull away.
Lucas Williamson led Potomac Valley with three singles and two RBIs, Landon Tysinger and Hunter Harr both doubled and singled, Owen Reel and James Vincell doubled, Jacobs singled twice, and Mason Slade drove in two runs.
Hare was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings with three strikeouts and five walks.
Morgantown’s Kane Williams, formerly of Allegany High, tripled and singled. Grayson Campbell was tabbed with the loss.
Potomac Valley takes on South Charleston Post 94 (15-2) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in another elimination game.
