KEYSER, W.Va. — WVU Potomac State College won a four- set match on Wednesday over Allegany College.
The Catamounts (1-2) won with scores of 18-25, 25-20, 25-19 and 25-14.
Potomac State’s Victoria Lester paced the Catamounts with a double-double, tallying 44 assists, 11 digs and three block assists.
Sarah Iman (Moorefield) had 13 kills and eight digs, Ashton Spiker garnered six kills, 13 digs, four aces and two solo blocks, Christianna Sledge finished with six kills, four aces and 13 digs, Daija Wright added 12 digs, Delaney Randolph tallied three aces and seven digs, and Alyssa Abel had five kills and a block.
“We started well against Potomac State, but our passing broke down as the match went on,” ACM head coach Joe Brewer said. “Started giving too many free balls, and Potomac State has way too many offensive weapons to defend when that happens.”
Makenna Conway led the Trojans (3-1) with 26 assists along with eight digs.
Nailevid Lorenzo-Lopez finished with a double-double of 15 digs and 11 kills.
Ryan Whitehead (Mountain Ridge) also had a double-double with 15 kills, 13 digs and two aces.
Kailyn McCoy contributed 24 digs with three assists and an ace.
Addison Miller recorded six kills, two aces and a block while Autumn Hoppert (Bishop Walsh) had four kills and two blocks.
Potomac State hosts a tri-match on Saturday, beginning with Chesapeake at noon followed by Howard at 4 p.m.
Allegany sweeps tri-match
FREDERICK — Allegany made quick work of a pair of matches at Saturday’s tri-match, hosted by Frederick Community College.
The Trojans (3-0) swept Frederick 25-20, 25-21 and 25-23 while defeating Chesapeake in four sets (25-11, 25-7, 21-25 and 25-19).
Against Frederick, Conway led Allegany with a 32 assist double-double, adding 17 assists and two kills.
Lorenzo-Lopez and Whitehead each recorded double-doubles.
Lorenzo-Lopez finished with 14 kills, 13 digs and three aces while Whitehead contributed 10 kills, 18 digs and an ace.
Miller finished with 14 kills, four digs and two aces.
Hoppert added seven kills and three digs while Kailyn McCoy recorded 13 digs, two assists and an ace.
Jaiden Fradiska (Fort Hill) had 11 digs.
Against Chesapeake, Conway also recorded 32 assists, adding six digs, three aces and a kill.
Lorenzo-Lopez finished with a double-double of 11 kills, 10 digs and three aces.
Whitehead also had a double-double with 12 kills, 11 digs and four aces.
Hoppert added nine kills, a dig and an ace while Miller had five kills, two digs and seven aces and McCoy had 11 digs.
The Trojans host Penn Highlands on Monday at 6 p.m.
