NEWBURYPORT — The driver of a Nissan Altima was transported to an area hospital Monday afternoon after police responded to a suspected drug overdose inside the Daily News parking lot off Liberty Street.
A Daily News staff member spotted the driver — who appeared to be in his mid 20s — and a younger female passenger unresponsive. By the time police, firefighters and an ambulance crew arrived the driver was seen moving inside the vehicle.
The driver ultimately staggered out of the vehicle and was placed onto a gurney with the help of emergency responders.
Police conducted an inventory search of the car prior to it being towed.
A witness told police the driver was seen ordering food inside nearby Abraham’s Bagel before heading back to the vehicle.
