CRESAPTOWN — Maryland State Police are investigating the death of an inmate late Saturday at the North Branch Correctional Institution.
Larry Horton, 51, was pronounced dead by emergency medical services personnel after being found unresponsive in his cell about 11:30 p.m., police said.
A suspect, also an inmate, has been identified, police said. He is not being identified until charges are filed.
Investigators are awaiting autopsy results by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to determine cause and manner of death.
This marks the second inmate death at the maximum-security prison in about three weeks.
Jordan Polston, 32, was found unresponsive Dec. 21 in a cell and a fellow inmate is facing charges, according to authorities.
The incident is under investigation by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, which will present findings to the Allegany County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Crime scene technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division also responded to NBCI.
