Members of the State University Police and Oneonta Police Department made an arrest connected to a shooting that occurred Tuesday on Center Street in the city.
Miguel A. Alcaraz, age and residence not provided, was charged Wednesday with second degree burglary, according to a news release.
Police were dispatched around 7:52 p.m. Tuesday to the area of 30 Center St. to the report of a male who had suffered a gunshot wound.
A 36-year-old man was found at the scene with a single gunshot wound and was transported to A. O. Fox Hospital by the Oneonta Fire Department.
The name of the injured person has not been released.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the assailant fled the scene prior to the arrival of responding law enforcement officers.
Oneonta police officers were assisted by the New York State University Police, New York State Police and Otsego County Sheriff’s Office in conducting a search of the area for any suspects as well as any evidence of the crime.
As the initial response yielded few additional details, uniformed Oneonta police officers continued searching the center city area and were able to track footprints through the Second, Third and Fourth Wards.
The actions of the officers resulted in additional physical and video evidence and provided a clearer focus for the investigation, the press release stated.
Oneonta Police Chief Christopher Witzenburg said Wednesday that no other injured parties were discovered or reported.
The police have not released information on other suspects or charges in connection with the shooting incident.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the Oneonta Police Department at 607-432-1111.
