PLATTSBURGH — A Plattsburgh native took the 47th Annual Mayor’s Cup Regatta this past Saturday.
Polar Express, skippered by Chris Duley, took home the Mayor’s Cup trophy. The Duley family has been competing in the Mayor’s Cup Regatta for over thirty years and were delighted to take home the trophy for the first time this year, with three generations of family members on board as crew.
“All the captains and their crew did a great job competing in difficult sailing conditions on Saturday,” said Kjell Dahlen, Sunrise Rotarian Chair of the Mayor’s Cup Regatta. “Winds were light and variable, but we were fortunate to avoid the thunderstorms that were originally in the forecast.”
Meridian, skippered by Julie Trottier from Williston, VT won the Rotary Cup, and Shoshin, skippered by Tim McKegney from West Lebanon, NH, was the Multihull Division winner.
The Mayor’s Cup Valcour race took place the following day, Sunday, July 7. Sailors enjoyed much more favorable sailing conditions with a nice steady breeze throughout the race.
The Racing Division winner was Souvenir, skippered by Craig Myerson from Peru, NY, the Jib & Main Division winner was Schuss, skippered by Cameron Giezendanner, from Underhill, VT, and the Multihull Division winner was Blade Runner, skippered by Devin Van Zandt from Saratoga.
