PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh State men’s and women’s hockey players earned several honors after a successful weekend which saw both teams claims victories in prestigious tournaments.
On the men’s side, senior forward Bennett Stockdale was selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 26.
Stockdale was named the LayerEight Shootout Tournament MVP after a three-point weekend as No. 1 Plattsburgh won the LayerEight Shootout Tournament Championship.
Stockdale scored both goals in a 2-1 win over St. Olaf on Friday night, and assisted on the game-winning goal in the team’s championship win over No. 11 Norwich. For the weekend, he finished +2 and also put 13 shots on goal for the Cards.
Alos, first-year forward Tio D’ Addario once was named the SUNYAC) Rookie of the Week, this time for the period ending Nov. 26. D’Addario won the honors after his first week of collegiate play and also earned honors for the period ending Nov. 12, making this his third Rookie of the Week honor in five weeks of college hockey.
D’Addario continued his outstanding rookie campaign over the weekend earning the LayerEight Shootout Tournament’s Most Outstanding Rookie.
The first-year forward picked up an assist in the team’s 2-1 win over St. Olaf and then registered the game-winning score against No. 11 Norwich in the championship game.
The No. 1 Cardinals are currently 8-0 and will welcome Cortland and Oswego State to the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 1 and 2, for their next two matchups.
On the women’s side, graduate student goaltender Lilla Nease earned the SUNYAC Goalie of the Week for the period ending Nov. 26.
This is the first honor of the season for Nease, who won two conference goalie of the week honors last season.
No. 4 Plattsburgh State won the Cardinal/Panther Classic for the first time since 2016 thanks to the effort from Tournament MVP Nease, who won both games in goal for the Cardinals, stopping 60 total shots for a .968 save percentage on the weekend.
The graduate student goalie began the weekend making 23 saves in a 6-1 win over No. 9 UW-Eau Claire to advance the Cards to the championship game. Nease was even more excellent there, making a career-high 37 saves against No. 5 Middlebury to earn the MVP award for the tournament.
Also for the women, first-year forward Zsofia Pazmandi earned the SUNYAC Rookie of the Week for the third straight week.
Pazmandi posted a three-goal weekend for the Cardinals, en route to an All-Tournament team selection and a Cardinal/Panther Classic Championship. Pazmandi tallied the first two scores in the 6-1 win over No. 9 UW-Eau Claire and then added an empty-net goal to seal the team’s championship win over No. 5 Middlebury.
For the weekend, she finished +3 and put seven shots on goal.
The No. 4 Cardinals currently are 6-0-1 and will host No. 13 Cortland on Friday, Dec. 1 for a huge SUNAYC matchup at 3 p.m.
