PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh dug deep when it mattered most.
After leading for a majority of the game, they weren’t going to let this one slip away. Lizzy Burnham scored the winning goal with 47 seconds left to snatch victory away from Ogdensburg Free Academy, 9-8, Saturday.
It ended a back-and-forth contest that neither team wanted to give up.
What ended with seconds remaining, started similarly as Reese Gregoire gave the Hornets an early lead seconds into the game.
This lead would go away minutes later when the Blue Devils tied things up at 1-1.
Plattsburgh proved to be too much to handle in the first frame as it took a 7-4 lead into the break and looked primed to build on it.
OFA, however, had other ideas and stymied the Hornets with a tightening of their defense allowing the Blue Devils to claw back into the contest.
The score would again be tied with five minutes remaining at 8-8, and that’s when the Hornets began moving with a focus and determination to get the win.
It all set up for Burnham’s heroics to seize the day.
Gregoire, Burnham and Emilee Geiger talled three goals each. Burnham added three assists in the game.
Sophia Amaya-Gutierrez continued to be a strong presence in the net, making eight saves.

OGDENSBURG — Sometimes there are games you want to wash out of your memory.
Friday’s contest against OFA my was just the case for Plattsburgh High. The Hornets fell, 15-3.
The Blue Devils controlled the game and tempo from the beginning, dictating how the game would be played. It was simply another loss for PHS to a good team.
Declan Baker scored two goals and Alek Duprey tallied the third as Plattsburgh was outshot, 44-15.
Landen Delaronde was under constant duress but played admirably, saving 12 shots.
A bright spot for the Hornets was that of Logan Lehrman. He assisted on Baker’s goal in the fourth quarter to record his first varsity point.
“This was another tough loss to a good team,” PHS head coach Doug Collyer said. “Ogdensburg controlled the tempo of the game from the opening faceoff.
“We’ll look to wash this one away quickly and focus on our four home games next week. Connor Duda stepped up today and played well, despite not feeling well. Warren Pray and Ryder Gregoire played well defensively in front of the crease.”
