SALEM — The waterfront history of Salem came alive this weekend as Black Sam Bellamy’s crew of pirates went toe-to-toe with Capt. John Turner’s pirate hunters in the Battle for Derby Street.
The festival of all things piratey, put on by the House of the Seven Gables and Real Pirates Salem, kicked off Friday evening and ran through Saturday and Sunday with various activities for participants to learn, shop, and play up and down Derby Street. They could tip the battle toward their chosen side before the dramatic conclusion at the end of the day.
