The Pinkerton Academy-Londonderry High rivalry – no matter the sport – is special.
Tuesday was no different.
The winners of the last three New Hampshire Division I state championships went head-to-head, and the defending champs from Pinkerton not only prevailed with the 4-2 win but kept up their perfect season in tact at 15-0.
“It’s always a tight game no matter where we’re both at during the season and in the standings. Today was no different,” said Astros’ head coach Steve Campo. “It was a great ballgame to watch; it was a great ballgame to be a part of and we’re fortunate that we came out on the right side.”
The win gives the Astros the inside track of once again being the No. 1 seed in next month’s state tournament.
“This stretch between Goffstown, Exeter and now Londonderry right in a row has been tough but we’ve been fortunate enough to get some strong pitching to get us through it,” said Campo.
The pitching on Tuesday was once again fantastic. Hunter Brasier went the distance, giving up one earned run on just two hits, while striking out six. He was also 2 for 3 with the bat and Anthony Caruso was 3 for 3. Hayden Marshall also knocked in two runs.
“Hunter was in the (strike) zone and was competitive the entire game. Londonderry is an aggressive team. They did a good job of putting the ball in play and we were fortunate enough to make enough plays (in the field) to get out of there with a win,” said Campo.
