Riding a three-game losing streak, the Pinkerton Academy boys’ basketball team desperately needed a spark.
And boy did they ever get one on Tuesday night.
Freshman Josh Phanor tied a school record by draining 11 three-pointers as part of his 37-point performance to lead the Astros to a hard-earned road victory over Bishop Guertin, 92-72.
“It was a good team win. My teammates found me when I was open,” said Phanor. “I shot the ball with confidence like my coach tells me.”
His coach, Mike Dunham, said the season high 37 points really wasn’t that much of a surprise.
“It was a great performance,” said Dunham. “I’ve been watching him since the seventh grade and it’s not much of a shock. He can really shoot it and is super confident.”
The 11 three-pointers ties Christian Brander’s mark which he broke during last year’s season.
Besides Phanor, junior Brady Sullivan finished with 28 points and sophomore Ryder Hawkes was also red-hot from three-point land, draining five as part of his 21-point night.
Pinkerton improves to 3-4 with the win.
