PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh High boys’ lacrosse team used a big second half on Tuesday to pull away to a 20-5 victory over Colton-Pierrepont.
The Hornets held a 5-4 halftime lead.
Luca Meyer and Alek Duprey led the Hornets with five goals each, with Meyer assisting on two and Duprey one.
Declan Baker added three goals and an assist, Preston Daniels a goal and three assists and Louis Sweenor three assists.
Matthew Barr scored two of Colton-Pierrepont’s five goals.
“This was a hard-fought physical game,” PHS coach Ryan Breen said. “Colton-Pierrepont may be undermanned, but they make up for it with grit. We lost one of our key players, John Bourgeois, late in the game with an injury and we will miss him as long as he is out.
“We had two first-time goal scorers tonight, with A.J. Swetson and Braden Nephew both tallying their first varsity lacrosse goals. We did a good job on ground balls, helping us to control the pace of the game. Louis Sweenor snagged 11 of those ground balls and he owned the face-off stripe, winning 13 in 16 opportunities. We were able to get Tyler Bowen and Cameron Sault some face-off time, and they both had winning rates.”
The Hornets host Potsdam in their next game today.
“All in all, it’s never a bad thing when you can get the offense to click,” Breen said. “Hopefully, that will continue against Potsdam.”
