SARANAC LAKE — While the Hornets suffered a loss against SLP, the heads were not hung because to them, they’re laying the foundation for the future.
“SLP has always been one of our toughest competitors, and this game proved why, but it also showed just how far we’ve come as a team,” PHS’ Cali Castine said. “From key defensive stops as the shot clock wound down to stronger, more consistent communication on both ends of the field, there were so many moments that reflected our growth.
“We played with more awareness, trusting each other and seeing the whole field. While the result wasn’t what we wanted, this game was full of small wins that matter and will push us forward. I’m proud of how we competed, and even more proud to be part of this team.”
The halves mirrored each other at 7-2 as SLP defeated Plattsburgh, 12-4.
Marin Juneau had two goals and six draw controls to lead the Hornets. Lizzy Burnham had one goal and assist. Caleigh Latour had the other goal as Avery Berman recorded the assist.
Fi Conners stopped what she could, making nine saves on the night.
“Since our program’s inception, our circumstances haven’t been ideal, making every season challenging,” PHS head coach Shannon Brown said. “We have the toughest schedule in the league by travel alone. This season, we have injuries to key players, but our girls are rallying together and starting to form an identity they can be proud of. The scoreboard doesn’t reflect the effort and hustle we showed in this game.”
