PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Petersburg senior Peyton Tingler scored the 1,000th point of his career Wednesday, and the Vikings won a 74-72 thriller over Keyser.
After two tightly contested quarters in which the Vikings (9-9) led 14-12 after one and led 28-27 at the half, Petersburg exploded for 30 points in the third to forge ahead 58-46.
Tingler scored 11 of his game-high 23 points in the quarter, and Kaleb Kuhn tallied 12 of his 19 during the period. All 19 of Kuhn’s points came after halftime.
Tingler has 1,006 points after Wednesday’s victory.
Keyser (7-11) clawed to within a bucket, but Petersburg made 8 of 10 free throws in the decider to hang on.
Caden Ours was third on Petersburg with 17 points, hitting four 3-pointers to match Tingler for a game high.
Grayson Lambka poured in a season-high 22 points for Keyser, Braylon McGreevy scored 15 and Layton Valentine chipped in 13.
Keyser is at Mountain Ridge (11-10) on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Petersburg hosts Hampshire (10-8) on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Union 65, Paw Paw 47
MOUNT STORM, W.Va. — Behind five double-figure scorers, Union defeated Paw Paw on Wednesday night.
The Tigers (8-7) led 19-14 after the first quarter, 34-23 at the half and 47-33 after three quarters.
Braylon Ward paced Union with 20 points, five assists and five rebounds. Corbin Streets (10 points, 12 rebounds) and Hunter Gaither (15 points, 10 rebounds) notched double-doubles, Jacob Haynes and Eric Linkswiler scored 10 each, and Jacob Wolfe dished out a team-high six assists.
Donovan Tanouye led Paw Paw (6-14) with 29 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and four assists. No other player scored more than seven points.
Union is at Pocahontas County on Friday at 6 p.m. Paw Paw is at Hancock on Saturday at 1 p.m.
