BAKER, W.Va. — Petersburg won its ninth straight game to begin the season Wednesday, taking down East Hardy, 10-2.
The second-ranked Vikings scored the game’s first 10 runs before East Hardy (2-6) plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh on back-to-back home runs by Evan Hamilton and Dayton Dove.
Colin Mauzy had a multi-hit game for the Vikings, Trace Rohrbaugh scored three times and Clay Arbaugh and Payton Metheny had a double each.
Metheny earned the win on the mound, tossing four shutout innings of three-hit ball with six strikeouts and three walks.
Peyton Tingler allowed two runs on two hits in three frames of relief.
East Hardy used five pitchers. Hamilton fared the best, allowing a run on one hit in two innings of relief, fanning four and walking one.
Petersburg is at Allegany (5-3) on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
East Hardy hosts South Harrison on Friday at noon.
No. 1 Frankfort 24, Berkeley Springs 8
SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Julian Pattison belted a grand slam and racked up seven RBIs in a five-inning rout of Berkeley Springs on Wednesday.
Pattison went 4 for 4 and also doubled for the Falcons, who improved to 9-3 with the victory.
Uriah Cutter was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a triple, Jaxon Hared tripled and scored three times, Blake Jacobs scored four runs, and Jesus Perdew and Rhett Sensabaugh both singled and doubled.
Cutter was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs (one earned) in 2 1/3 innings of relief.
Frankfort takes on Lincoln and Robert C. Byrd at the McDonald’s Classic at RCB on Friday.
No. 4 Southern 11, Tucker Co. 1
OAKLAND — Four pitchers combined to hold Tucker County to two base hits in a Southern rout on Wednesday.
Ryan Bird, Jaxon Glotfelty, Matthew McCartny and Hayden Williams combined to allow one unearned run on two hits in six frames with 13 strikeouts to three walks.
Reece Tasker went 2 for 3 with a double, Preston Winters singled twice and had two RBIs, and Bryson Bennett drove in two runs.
Reece Polling was the losing pitcher for Tucker County.
Southern is at Northern on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. and Petersburg on Friday at 11 a.m. The Rams also host Meyersdale on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
