PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Payton Metheny went 3 for 3, leading Petersburg to a five-inning win over Berkeley Springs in the Class AA, Region II playoffs on Tuesday.
Metheny kept the Vikings’ (10-20) season alive, recording a triple, a run driven in, a walk and two stolen bases.
Owen Reel went 2 for 4 with three RBIs while Lukas Wolford was 2 for 3 with a run driven in.
Reel tossed three shutout innings with three strikeouts.
Petersburg heads to South Harrison on Wednesday in an elimination game.
Moorefield 13, Braxton County 3
MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Moorefield snapped a five-game losing streak, also keeping its season alive with a run rule of Braxton County on Tuesday.
The Yellow Jackets (14-11) scored seven runs in the third and five in the fourth.
Mathew Iman, Blake Snyder and Caleb Flinn each had two hits for Moorefield.
Iman drove in three runs while Snyder and Eastyn Haines added a pair.
Kail Greenwalt tossed four shutout frames in relief with six strikeouts.
The Yellow Jackets play at Philip Barbour on Wednesday in an elimination game.
East Hardy 15, Paw Paw 0
BAKER, W.Va. — East Hardy opened its playoff run with a three-inning rout in the Class A, Region II bracket on Tuesday.
Dayton Dove and Mason Hamilton went yard for the Cougars (19-9).
Both dingers came in the bottom of the second.
Dove’s came three pitches into the frame on a solo shot to center.
Hamilton sent a three-run tater to center.
Evan Hamilton, Mason Hamilton and Dove each drove in three runs.
Cole Lantz struck out three in two shutout innings.
Braylen Paul, Tomy Santos, Taylor Carder and Nathan Dick recorded the four hits for the Pirates (2-10).
East Hardy plays the winner of Paw Paw and Tucker County and can clinch a trip to the state tournament with a win.
Robert C. Byrd 4, Hampshire 3
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Trailing 3-0 midway through the fifth, Robert C. Byrd (RCB) rallied back and walked off Hampshire in the Class AAA, Region II playoffs on Tuesday.
The Eagles scored three runs in the fifth, then Jaxson Maglowski walked it off on a single in the seventh.
Brayden Hott, Mason Wolford and Christopher Wood each had two hits for the Trojans (15-11).
Channing Wilt tossed 4 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs.
Xavier Carvelli went 6 1/3 frames of one-run ball, striking out eight for RCB.
Hampshire faces elimination on Wednesday at home against Lewis County.
Bridgeport 11, Keyser 1
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Keyser broke up a no-hit bid in the fifth, falling in Tuesday’s regional game at Bridgeport.
The Golden Tornado’s (11-17) lone hit led to its only run, a single from Lucas Williamson on a liner to center.
Now leading 3-1, the Indians scored the game’s final eight runs.
Blake Butcher tossed six innings of one-run ball with eight strikeouts for Bridgeport.
Keyser heads to Elkins, facing elimination on Wednesday.
