PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Nellie Whetzel, Abby Alt and Miley Tingler finished in double figures as Petersburg opened the season with a 64-27 rout of Berkeley Springs on Tuesday night.
The Vikings (1-0), which have advanced to the Class AA state semifinals the past three years, led 16-10 after the first quarter, 31-15 at the half and 47-23 entering the fourth quarter.
Whetzel finished with 12 points, Alt scored 11 and Tingler added 10. Also factoring into the scoring for Petersburg were Ayden Mayfield (nine points), Makenah Shriver (eight) and Kourtney Alexander (six).
Maddie Fauver topped Berkeley Springs with nine points and Maddie Close chipped in eight.
Petersburg hosts East Hardy in Thursday at 7 p.m.
