PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Petersburg scored 19 fourth-quarter points to pull away from Frankfort, 54-41, on Friday for its fifth straight win.
The Vikings, who improved to 7-4, led 14-13 after the first quarter, 28-23 at the intermission and 35-32 entering the decider.
Nellie Whetzel hit two field goals in the fourth and Addison Kitzmiller drilled a 3-pointer and two free throws as Petersburg outscored Frankfort, 19-11, in the decisive stanza.
Abby Alt led all scorers with 16 points — 13 in the first half. Alt hit three of Petersburg’s four 3-pointers. Sam Colaw added 12 points, Kitzmiller garnered six and Whetzel ended with five.
Kendall Kelly and Madi Ruble were the leading scorers for Frankfort with 10 points apiece. Ruble had eight points during the opening period.
Petersburg returns to the court to play Lincoln at the East Fairmont classic on Friday. Frankfort (2-8) is at Moorefield (5-6) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Fort Hill 67 Hancock 29
HANCOCK — Fort Hill recorded its first game on the season Friday, routing Hancock behind three double-digit scorers.
The Sentinels, winless in their first eight games, were led by Aubry Spangler with 14 points and five assists, Lindsay Fleming with 10 points and seven rebounds, Nevaeh Bunbasi with 10 points and Brenly Hershberger with eight, and MaeLeigh Plummer with eight points and six rebounds.
“The girls worked extremely hard over the break,” Fort Hill head coach Mike Allen said. “We went back to fundamentals and learning the game and the little details the girls needed to know. It paid off tonight. I’m very happy for the girls and proud of them for earning the first win.”
S. Smith was Hancock’s leading scorer with 11 points. First names were not provided for Hancock.
Fort Hill hosts Smithsburg on Jan. 15.
