SYRACUSE — The Peru wrestling team faced some stiff competition over the weekend in the NYSPHSAA Dual Meet Tournament at the SRC Arena and Events Center.
The Section VII-champion Nighthawks, competing in Division 2, Pool 2, dropped a 54-6 decision to John H. Glenn and a 54-15 setback to Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama.
Against John H. Glenn, Alyn Capen and Mason Starke recorded the lone wins for Peru.
Capen, at 101 pounds, won a 12-8 decision; and Starke, at 138, was a 12-7 winner by decision.
Against Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama, Landen Goddeau, Brody Blaise-Smith and Kaden Rivers picked up Peru victories.
Goddeau won by technical fall at 145, Blaise-Smith by decision at 170 and Rivers by forfeit at 116.
Peru returns to CVAC mat action on Wednesday, hosting Northern Adirondack in a huge match.

EAGLES WIN TOURNEY
MOUNT MANSFIELD, Vt. — Beekmantown turned in a good showing this past weekend at the Jason Lowell Memorial Wrestling Tournament at Mount Mansfield High School.
The Eagles finished in first place in the 23-team field with 146 points, with Otter Valley, Vt. second with 140.
Individually, finishing first in their weight classes for Beekmantown were Jacob Magiera, who was 3-0 at 144 pounds, and Jack Brown 4-0 at 190.
Brown was also awarded the most pins with the least time on the mat award.
