A Pelham High football program that has won 41 consecutive games and four straight state titles has now lost its second head coach in just over six months.
First-year Pelham football coach John Trisciani has resigned from his position with the Pythons, athletic director Justin Hufft confirmed on Friday, just one day before the team’s season-opener on Saturday at Bow.
Hufft, who will serve as acting head coach, said he couldn’t further comment on the personnel matter.
The 63-year-old Trisciani was hired by Pelham in June, after six-time state champion head coach Tom Babaian stepped down in February.
This marks the second head coaching position Trisciani has left this year. The 45-year coaching veteran had previously accepted the Hollis-Bookline head job in February, before stepping down to take the Pelham job. His other stops include head coach at Manchester Memorial from 2007-08 and assistant positions at Saint Anselm College, Bishop Guertin, Manchester Central and Manchester Memorial.
Hufft brings plenty of experience to the job. He served as Goffstown’s head football coach from 2011-19, compiling a 64-29 record and winning the 2015 Division I state title.
“I will be serving as acting head coach, and will be working with the assistant coaches to ensure continuity with the program,” he said. “We’re looking forward to our first game. We’re going to do the best that we can to take on Bow. Opening day is always a lot of fun.”
Hufft said the team was in good spirits and believes the program can still have a memorable season.
“I met with the team, and they’re ready to play,” said Hufft. “The kids are resilient. They’ve been great. They deserve to have as good as season as we can provide them, and that’s what we’re going to do.”
