WILEY FORD, W.Va. — A pedestrian was struck and killed on state Route 28 near the intersection of Cumberland Street in Wiley Ford late Monday, according to the Mineral County Sheriff’s Department.
Michael Defibaugh, 56, was pronounced dead at UPMC Western Maryland, according to Sheriff Joel Whisner.
According to Whisner, the victim was struck by a vehicle traveling south on Route 28.
“She was going southbound and Defibaugh came directly out in front of her,” Whisner said.
“She attempted to avoid striking him but was unable to do so.”
The incident occurred just before 11 p.m., according to a Mineral County 911 Center spokesperson.
“To my knowledge there will be no charges in this case,” Whisner said. “There appears to be no negligence involved.”
The Mineral County Sheriff’s Department conducted the investigation that closed Route 28 for a period of time.
Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
