A 60-year-old pedestrian lost her life early Monday morning when she was struck upon entering the roadway in the path of a dump truck at Hwys. 127 and 62 in Clarkrange.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the pedestrian as Ester R. Dovel of Tennessee.
A preliminary report filed by the THP said Dovel was hit when she entered the travel lane of a turning 2002 Peterbilt dump truck driven by Virgil E. Stephens, 28, of Tennessee at about 5:20 a.m.
The THP reported Stephens was driving the dump truck south on Hwy. 127 and was attempting to make a right turn onto Hwy. 62 when Dovel walked into his lane of travel from a gas station parking lot on the right.
The report said the truck struck the pedestrian and came to a final rest on Hwy. 62.
Stephens, who was wearing a safety belt, was not injured. No status was given on his 34-year-old passenger, who was unidentified in the THP report.
No one was charged in the incident.
