MANKATO — If pedaling isn’t your forte, Pedal Past Poverty is offering an alternative to encourage participation in the benefit that supports those in need of housing.
Partners for Housing’s 12th annual Pedal Past Poverty fundraiser returns Feb. 24 to the Mankato YMCA, this time featuring a new walking option.
The addition aims to attract a larger audience and will be at the same time as the cycling heats on the upper track of the gym.
Otherwise, the event will look the same as it has in years past. Teams of eight will race against each other on stationary bikes in 15-minute intervals with the goal of raising $75,000 for the organization.
The fundraiser starts at 8 a.m. and wraps up around noon.
Event coordinator Madison Conway said the fundraiser is their biggest charity event of the year and helps their clients and people experiencing housing instability by providing basic necessities and keeping shelters in good shape.
“It’s a really fun event, really high energy. It’s good company, good music, and you’re doing a good thing for the community at the same time,” Conway said.
Participants also are encouraged to show team spirit by dressing in fun costumes with their group.
About 20 teams are signed up so far, and interested teams are encouraged to sign up by the end of the week.
You can sign up for either the biking or walking option at partnersforhousing.org.
