PEABODY — The 40th International Festival will liven up the streets of downtown Peabody with cultural food, art and entertainment on Sunday, Sept. 7, the city announced Monday.
The free event will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day. Known for its dozens of vendors selling food from around the world, the festival has become a staple tradition for the city.
“The International Festival is Peabody’s signature community event and the biggest party on the North Shore,” Mayor Ted Bettencourt said in a statement. “Forty years since it started, the festival still celebrates Peabody’s ethnic and cultural diversity through food, art and entertainment.”
Food stands will line Main Street during the event, while the Galleria Tent and Artisan Market on Foster Street will feature artwork by North Shore artists.
Activities and entertainment for children, including a magician, arts and crafts, moon bounces, dancing and music, will be held at the festival’s Kid’s Corner at East End Veteran’s Memorial Park on Walnut Street throughout the day.
A rain date for the International Festival is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 14.
Vendor booth applications will be accepted through June 30 at www.ifestpeabody.com.
On Sept. 13, as part of the festival, the Progeria Research Foundation will hold its annual International Race for Research at 9 a.m. at the Leather City Common on Lowell Street. The event features a 5K road race and a two-mile fun run and walk.
