Two former Peabody High standouts proved they could get it done in the classroom as well as on the lacrosse field for Salem State University.
Seniors Cam Collins and Ryan Rice were both named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association’s All-Academic team this past spring. It’s a prestigious and rigorous honor that goes to graduating seniors (or grad students) who have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and are impact players for their teams.
Collins and Rice surely bit that bill.
A midfielder, Collins ranked fifth on the team with 15 goals and added 20 assists for 35 total points. He surpassed the 100 point milestone for his career and posted three multi-goal goals, including a hat trick in a win over Mount Saint Vincent. He graduated with a degree in business finance.
Rice, a defender, helped anchor the back for the Vikings. He scooped up 18 groundballs, caused ten turnovers and was an integral part of a Viking defense that ranked fifth overall in the Little East. Rice graduated with a degree in businiess.
The pair helped Salem State finish 8-7, the program’s first time over the .500 mark since the 2012-13 season.
