The Military Memorial Museum of Upper Cumberland is excited to welcome Stephanie Parker, owner of Wooden Spool, Alterations and Design in Crossville as the museum’s newest community supporter.
“When the museum procured a WWI nurses trunk, which included uniforms and personal memorabilia, we reached out to Stephanie to see if she could help repair the nurse’s uniform. Without hesitation Stephanie jumped right in to work on the repairs. One afternoon, we visited her shop to check on the progress and Shephanie was wearing white cotton gloves while working on the fragile WWl uniform and discussed in detail future care of the textiles that were found in the nurses’ trunk,” Diane Alenitsch of the Military Memorial Museum said.
The uniform was ready for display at the museum’s fundraising concert at the Palace Theatre in December.
“The museum board cannot thank Stephanie enough for her diligence and care to have the uniform ready in time for the concert,” Alenitsch said.
Parker is originally from St. Louis, MO and graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, MO, in 2013 with a BFA in Theatrical Costume Design. She started her business, Wooden Spool in the fall of 2023 in Crossville which allowed her to be closer to family.
Besides sewing, she enjoys scrapbooking, photography, reading and has a passion for history, which is one of the factors that led her to costume design.
Local businesses that become community supporters are mentioned on the museum’s webpage with their business contact information.
