Otsego County towns have issued declarations of states of emergency in the wake of severe weather that passed through the area Tuesday.
Town of Laurens Supervisor Dean Buccher declared a state of emergency effective at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 1.
According to a news release from the Otsego County Department of Emergency Services, the emergency was declared “due to a significant weather-related incident on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, which ultimately impacted several roads deemed impassable due to trees and wires down, and as a result this situation threatens public safety.”
The town also enacted emergency orders for a five-day period, also beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday. “During this timeframe, there is to be no unnecessary travel in the Town of Laurens,” the order stated.
Town of Pittsfield Supervisor Lisa Jackson made similar declarations for her town, effective at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 30.
Those declarations, too, cited impassable roads and banned travel within the town.
