PLATTSBURGH — Tyler Kohn gave Plattsburgh State what it needed on the mound in the first game on Tuesday and the Cardinals split a doubleheader with Oswego in SUNYAC baseball at Chip Cummings Field.
Plattsburgh won the opener, 9-4, to record its 20th victory on the season. The Cardinals, however, dropped the second contest, 7-5, despite senior Alex Kornblau becoming the all-time home run leader at Plattsburgh.
The three-game set between the Cardinals and Lakers concluded on Wednesday and the cold weather suited Oswego (17-12, 7-5) much better in a 14-0 victory in seven innings over the Cardinals (20-12, 8-7).
Plattsburgh closes out SUNYAC regular season play this weekend at home against Brockport, needing a good showing to qualify for the conference tournament.

Aidan Diltz and Jack Defayette each had a double and single for Plattsburgh, with Diltz driving in two runs. Adam Wein added a triple and two RBI. Kyle Cremin, returning to the line-up following an injury, chipped in with a double, run scored and RBI.
Plattsburgh graduate student Conner Gonzalski was hit by pitches three times in the game to tie a single-game Plattsburgh record in that department. For his career, Gonzalski has taken one for the team and an incredible school-record 37 times.

Lefty Jai Sharma shut the Plattsburgh offense down for five innings, allowing one run and striking out 11 in the process.
The Cardinals, meanwhile, got a strong effort in relief from first-year player Jack Castillo, who kept his team in the contest. Castillo went five innings, allowed four hits, one run, two walks and fanned four.
Jelani Hamer led Oswego offensively with a double, home run, two runs scored and two RBI.
