SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Lanson Orndorf pitched a complete-game shutout to power No. 2 Frankfort past Petersburg, 2-0, Friday for its seventh win in eight games.
Frankfort (11-6) scored its two runs on a Cole Shanholtz triple in the second and an Orndorf single in the fifth.
Orndorf, who is signed to the University of Charleston, went 2 for 3. On the mound, the right-hander limited Petersburg (7-11) to four hits and struck out 11 in seven shutout frames of work.
Petersburg right-hander Payton Metheny was dealt the loss, though he pitched five strong frames surrendering two runs on six hits in five innings.
Owen Reel doubled to lead the Viking bats.
Frankfort is at No. 4 Allegany (8-5) on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Petersburg is at Moorefield (9-6) on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Southern 12, Hancock 2
OAKLAND — Ryan Bird doubled and drove in three runs, and he tossed a complete game to lead Southern to a five-inning rout of Hancock Friday.
Southern (8-7) got back over .500 with its second straight win, a modest streak that followed a three-game skid.
Bird went 2 for 3, Cole Parks tripled, drove in a pair and scored three times, JD Nesselrodt tallied three RBIs, Brady Spotts was 2 for 3 with a double, and Hayden Williams and Preston Winters doubled.
The right-handed Bird held Hancock to two runs (one earned) on three hits with eight strikeouts and four walks in his five-inning win.
Hancock’s Ethan Hill was tabbed with the loss.
Southern is at Meyersdale, Pennsylvania, on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
East Hardy 15, Pocahontas Co. 0
DUNMORE, W.Va. — East Hardy brought eight home in the first inning and held Pocahontas County to one hit in a four-inning romp Friday.
The Cougars (12-5) were led by Mason Hamilton, who went 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs. Evan Hamilton scored four times, Shayne Sisler homered, Patrick Mills was 2 for 3 with three ribbies, Mason Wilkins went 2 for 3 and drove in two, and Owen Miller doubled.
Cole Lantz pitched all four innings for the win, allowing no runs on one hit with eight strikeouts and five walks.
Pocahontas County’s Logan Keatley doubled. Keatley was also the losing pitcher.
East Hardy is at No. 2 Frankfort (11-6) on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
