CUMBERLAND — The Orioles and Pirates secured spots in the Dapper Dan Major Division championship Tuesday.
Both sides swept their best-of-three semifinal series. The Orioles defeated the Tigers 11-0 and 13-11, and the Pirates toppled the Athletics 2-1 and 4-2.
The championship series, also a best-of-three, will take place July 7-9.
Each game will begin at 7 p.m. and be broadcast on Classic Hits 107 (107.1 FM). Former Dapper Dan championship-winning managers Jim Zamagias and Rock Cioni will be on the call.
The Pirates, winners of the last two Major Division titles under Sean Fradiska (‘23) and Jeremy Irons (‘24), will be going for their seventh championship.
The Orioles have won two, in 2009 coached by Dave Hickle and 2010 under Tedd Eirich. Current Orioles manager Trenton Eirich played on both teams.
Irons, again the Pirates’ coach, also played on the Pirates, as did his brother, Jon Irons, who recently coached Allegany to the Class 1A state baseball championship.
Both played for Zamagias, who coached the Pirates to titles in 2001, ‘07-’08.
The Dodgers’ 11 championships are the most by one team.
This is the 75th anniversary of the league and Commissioner Adam Sterne is completing his 25th year.
