A championship month by an Oneonta track star closes out the 2026 spring season of The Daily Star’s Athlete of the Week Award.
Darren Rose won the award for the week ending June 6.
Rose, a senior sprinter and jumper, had a big meet at the Section IV State Qualifier at Union-Endicott High School on June 3 and 4. Rose won the triple jump with a best of 43-11.25. He placed third in the 200 in 22.53. He was also on the winning 1,600 relay team with William Cooper, Jacob Morse and Noah Cotter, which finished in 3:29.12.
Rose continued his championship run at the NYSPHSAA Track and Field Championships on June 13 and 14 in Webster. He won a Class C state title in the triple jump with a best of 48-3, which also placed him third overall. His relay team placed seventh in Class C in 3:26.82.
Rose also won Section IV Class C titles in the 100 and triple jump, as well as a Southern Tier Athletic Conference title in the triple jump.
The Athlete of the Week Award will return in September.
