The SUNY Oneonta men’s lacrosse team took down cross-street rival Hartwick 13-7 on Thursday at Wright Stadium.
Oneonta jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter. After Hartwick cut the deficit to 5-3, the Red Dragons scored two goals late in the first half to take a 7-3 halftime advantage that was never seriously threatened in the second half.
Jamie O’Neil had a huge game in the win, finishing with four goals and five assists for Oneonta. Thomas Hnis scored twice while Vincent Tirino, Stephen Barikyan, Sergio Ilario, Matthew Krieg, Vincent Herbstman, Tim Navin and Anthony Munro all had goals as well.
Goalie Mark Restivo finished with 13 saves in net.
For Hartwick, Tyler Nocito and Garrett Frost each scored twice and Spencer Hogaboom, Colby Simonetti and Colin August had a goal apiece. Kaiden Johnson made 12 saves in the loss.
Oneonta (1-2) will visit Stevens (NJ) on Saturday. Hartwick (1-2) will be at Ithaca on Tuesday.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Clarkson 18, SUNY Oneonta 8
The SUNY Oneonta women fell to Clarkson 18-8 at home on Thursday. The Red Dragons fell behind 5-0 early and were never able to recover.
Cassidy Moore had a team-high three goals, Elizabeth Doherty and Ellie Downey each scored twice and Mason Benvenuto also found the back of the net. Julia Hawkins finished with seven saves in goal.
Oneonta (0-2) will host Utica on Saturday.
SUNY Cortland 20, Hartwick 8 (Wednesday)
Hartwick dropped its season-opening contest 20-8 to SUNY Cortland on Wednesday.
The Hawks couldn’t maintain an early 5-3 advantage as Cortland reeled off 12 unanswered goals to take control of the game.
Kara Anderson scored four goals for Hartwick, Kristen Vaccarelli netted three goals, Ashley Ament and Parker Laurin had a goal apiece and Katrina Marten added four assists. Brooke Lynett made six saves in goal while Alexa Patrakis made one.
Hartwick (0-1) will host Bard on Saturday.
BASEBALL
SUNY Oneonta 8, Union 3 (Tuesday)
SUNY Oneonta took down Union 8-3 at home on Tuesday.
Anthony Foglia and Logan Hutter each had three hits and an RBI for the Red Dragons while Ryan Cronin drove in three runs. Foglia and Sean Clinton each had a double as well.
On the mound, Kyle Roper picked up the win after tossing six scoreless innings, striking out seven and allowing just three hits and no walks.
Oneonta (1-3) will be in Auburndale, Fl., beginning next Monday for the Russmatt Central Florida Invitational.
