BINGHAMTON — Marco Konrad scored a game-high 34 points as top-seeded Maine-Endwell ended No. 2 seeded Oneonta’s season in the Section IV Class A boys basketball finals, 68-42, Sunday, March 8, at Visions Veterans Arena.
The Spartans, the Southern Tier Athletic Conference’s Metro Division champs, led from the opening seconds of the game and other than a brief Yellowjacket run in the first quarter, the outcome of the game never seemed to be in doubt.
Oneonta, the STAC East Division champs, tried several different half-court defenses against M-E, switching out of their 2-3 zone at times for a 1-3-1 and some man-to-man, but could not stop the Spartan guards, especially in transition.
Maine-Endwell ran off of rebounds and turnovers all game, getting layups and three pointers off of drives into the lane.
On the other end, Oneonta was cold outside and had trouble getting to the basket.
Senior guard Britten Zeh went to the bench with his third foul with 5:19 left in the second quarter, and M-E then went from a lead of about 10 points to a 26-point lead at halftime, 47-21.
Konrad scored 19 points in the second quarter, as M-E outscored the Yellowjackets, 31-14.
Preston Ocker scored 22 points for Maine-Endwell (15-6), which will play a sub-region game Wednesday, March 11, in Johnson City.
Brady Carr scored 16 points to lead Oneonta (16-5).
