SARANAC — A house fire on Burnt Hill Road early Sunday morning left one dead, officials say.
The fire broke out around 3 a.m. at 596 Burnt Hill Rd., a single-family home in the Town of Saranac, Clinton County Emergency Services Director Eric Day said.
Clinton County Coroner Chad Deans said there was one fatality and an active investigation was continuing.
The identity of the deceased person was yet to be released.
Day said the cause of the fire was still under investigation by the New York State Police, Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, Clinton County Office of Emergency Services Fire Investigators, New York State Office of Fire Prevention and the Coroner’s office participating.
The Saranac Fire Department received help from Cadyville, Dannemora, Peru, AuSable Forks, Ellenburg Depot, Morrisonville, Lyon Mountain and South Plattsburgh with the Air Truck and District 3. South Plattsburgh also provided coverage in Saranac and Cadyville.
Fire Department units left the scene around 1:30 p.m.
