Anyone with lobster gear to get rid of should head to the DPW yard next week where there will be dumpsters to dispose of old or broken equipment.
The “Scrap It! North Shore Lobster Gear Clean Up Initiative” is being held Monday, April 27, through Wednesday, April 29. at the Gloucester DPW yard, 28 Poplar St. Dumpsters will be available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The city is hosting the event with the nonprofit Lobster Foundation of Massachusetts to keep waters clean, keep traps and gear up to date, and reduce marine debris. The foundation is working in conjunction with Hiltz Waste Disposal for this initiative.
City Council President Tony Gross said the dumpsters came as a grant from the state’s Division of Marine Fisheries.
Gross said the city used to have a dumpster for lobster gear and this event allows lobstermen to properly dispose of old gear.
