The St. John’s Prep golf team finished in third place overall at the Division 1 state championships Monday at The Haven Country Club in Boylston.
The Eagles finished with a team score of 306 among their top four golfers, good for 18 over par. Catholic Conference rivals St. John’s of Shrewsbury (294, plus-6) and Xaverian (303, plus-15) finished first and second, respectively.
Seamus O’Holleran had an excellent round for St. John’s Prep. The sophomore was steady throughout the 18 holes while finishing with a 2-over-par 74, including a birdie on the par-3 17th hole. He finished tied for second overall to individual champion Ronan Mooney (4-under 68) of St. John’s Shrewsbury.
He was followed by senior captain Tripp Hollister, who birdied the first two holes and three of the first six while completing his round with a 3-over-par 75. That was good for a fourth place tie individually.
Another sophomore, AJ Bodnar, also had an excellent round with a 4-over 76 (with a pair of birdies), earning him a ninth place tie as an individual. Senior captain Brian Loughlin checked in with an 81 for the Eagles, tying for 22nd.
Other Prep golfers who took part included juniors Jack Carew (82) and Jack Moriarty (88).

At the Division 2 state championships at Berkshire Hills Country Club, Masconomet finished ninth in the 13-team field with a score of 325.
Northeastern Conference individual champion Cole Velardo led the Chieftains with a 5-over-ar 77, burying birdies on the par-5 second and 15th holes as well as the par-4 eighth. The junior captain finished tied for 17th place individually, six shots off the top score.
Brendan Sheehan, a junior, and Cooper Wassung, a sophomore, were next for Masconomet with matching 82s, followed by junior Thomas Finn at 84.
Playing as an individual, senior Bryce Clark of Danvers finished his round with an 86, same as senior Parker Wassung of Masconomet. Bishop Fenwick sophomore Nick McFadden shot an 88 and Drew Nelson of Masconomet a 91.
Pope Francis won the Division 2 team title with a 20-over-par 308, followed by three teams tied at 310: Nashoba, Westwood, and Old Rochester.
