Obed River Park has opened up its newest feature, an inclusive Play On Playground.
An inclusive playground offers a safely designed open space for children, with or without disabilities, of all ages the opportunity to play and socialize together.
Officials with Cumberland County, Crossville Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce, Upper Cumberland Development District, Tennessee Soil and Conservation District and Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability gathered recently for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The county received a grant from Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability toward construction of the playground.
The county park is at 24 Obed River Park Dr.
Dozens attended the ceremony for the park project that has been six years in the making.
Shortly after the ceremony a group from the Cumberland Forest Friends homeschooling group took advantage of the park.
Established in 1982, Obed River Park consists of 35 acres near Cumberland County Community Complex off Hwy. 70 N.
It offers 2.1 miles of paved walking trails, picnic shelters and areas, and serves as a Level 1 arboretum with 60 species of flora identified with markers.
