MCHENRY — Luke Ross pitched a gem to power the Oakland Oaks to a 2-1 win over Hopwood Village Plaza in Fayette County Baseball League action on Wednesday at Garrett College.
Ross took a shutout into the seventh before Hopwood put two runners on with one out. Andrew Catone entered out of the bullpen and bounced back from a two-out, RBI single by Justin Berstensky with a strikeout to record the save.
Ross was the winning arm, allowing a run on four hits in 6 1/3 innings. The right-hander struck out one and walked three.
Oakland’s Dylan Duvall pushed across the game’s first run with a single in the third inning, and Cameron Goble plated another on a groundout in the fifth.
Easton Rhoten scored both Oakland runs and added a double.
Hopwood’s Ryan Covelens had two hits. Erik Streussnig took the loss despite pitching six strong innings with 10 strikeouts.
Oakland (7-7) hosts the Carmichaels Copperheads on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Garrett College.
