BINGHAMTON – It’s Day 1 of the NYSPHSAA softball championships as teams make their push to Saturday’s championship games.

Ticonderoga gave it all they could in their semifinal game against Tuckahoe.
But the pitching of Kate Atteood was too much. The Tiger sophomore and left-hander struck out 17 Sentinels giving up only two hits in the day.
Tuckahoe scored when Attwood popped up for a sacrifice fly in the fifth to give them the lead they needed. But, after two runners got on base, the Attwood again did damage this time with a single to score insurance runs on.
Ticonderoga just was unable to get anything going offensively, but its defense stood tall and kept them in the game. The Sentinels end the season 17-1 and say goodbye to five seniors who helped rebuild the program after COVID-19.
Head coach Eric Mullen couldn’t thank them enough, “These girls mean a lot to the program, the community and me. I’m super proud of what they accomplished. Like I told them at the end, not often does a team from Section VII come down here and make some noise. They came down and kept a game of it until the seventh inning. ”

What might have been?
Argyle and Crown Point battled for seven innings, as both teams struggled to get hits. However, the ball just went the Scots way. Costly mistakes happened for both teams, just Argyle was able to cause damage, in its 3-2 victory over the Panthers.
Crown Point went hitless through five innings as Argyle’s Grace Depew faced the minimum number of batters. But, Corinne Woods changed that with a single. Addison Hurlburt added another base hit and both would score on an infield single by catcher Makenna Munson cut the deficit to one run.
If there had been more outs or if the bats came alive earlier, who knows what could have happened? However, a single in the seventh left a runner stranded as the next three batters went down in order.
So, ends a tumultuous season for Crown Point. Some may say they deserve the rest, others may wish they still had the distractions of playing.
As head coach Mike Ross said after the game, “I wouldn’t trade these girls for anything. Not (Argyle). Not a win.”
Full coverage and breakdown will be in Tuesday’s Press-Republican.
