ACCIDENT — No. 1 Northern trailed 11-7 entering the seventh and scored three runs, but the rally came up just short in an 11-10 loss to Meyersdale, Pennsylvania, on Monday.
The Huskies (7-5) had two quick outs, but Hunter Beitzel kept the game alive with a walk.
Jacob Chambers drove him in on a single, then Hunter Livengood hit a two-run home run to get Northern within a run.
Elliott Myers-Shirer singled to send the winning run to the plate, but a flyout to center ended the game.
Chambers opened the bottom of the third inning with a solo shot to center.
The Raiders led 8-2 midway through the fourth before the Huskies scored three in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Aiden Thomas hit a two-run homer in the top of the sixth for Meyersdale.
Landon Yoder, Livengood and Myers-Shirer each recorded three hits while Chambers added a pair.
Cole Yoder got the win, allowing five earned runs on eight hits and four walks with five strikeouts across 4 2/3 innings.
Jake Wampler took the loss, allowing five earned runs on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 4 1/3 frames.
Northern hosts Keyser (4-11) on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
No. 2 Hampshire 10, Musselman 6
ROMNEY, W.Va. — Tied at 6, Hampshire scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead for good against Musselman on Monday.
The Trojans (10-5) loaded the bases off a Brayden Hott double, Landon Whitacre single and a hit batter.
Another hit by pitch, sacrifice bunt, Landin Ludwick walk and wild pitch put Hampshire ahead 10-6.
Hott, Whitacre and Adam Riggleman each had a pair of hits for the Trojans.
Hampshire’s Mark Richman allowed one earned run on eight hits with no walks and four strikeouts across five frames.
Ludwick got the win with two shutout innings, only allowing one walk with two punchouts.
Jacob Pereschuk took the loss, allowing four runs on two hits and two walks across 1 1/3 innings for the Applemen.
The Trojans play at Mountain Ridge on Tuesday, followed by No. 2 Frankfort 9-6) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
No. 5 Fort Hill 10, Petersburg 0
PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Coye Resh drove in four runs and earned the pitching win, leading Fort Hill over Petersburg in a five-inning victory on Monday.
Resh doubled and tripled, finishing 2 for 4 and pitched 2 2/3 shutout frames on a hit and three walks with four punchouts.
Carson Bender also had two hits with four stolen bases for the Sentinels (8-4-1).
Owen Reel and Garret Hamric had the two hits for the Vikings (5-9).
Matthew McDonald was charged with the loss after allowing five earned runs in three innings.
Fort Hill is at East Hardy (9-5) on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Petersburg plays at Pendleton County on Tuesday, followed by Tygarts Valley Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
Mountain Ridge 9, Berkeley Springs 8
FROSTBURG — Mountain Ridge trailed 8-5 in the bottom of the seventh, but scored four runs and walked off Berkeley Springs on Monday.
The Miners (4-9) loaded the bases off walks from Carver Robeson and Dane VanSlyke and a Daniel Swindle single.
Nathan Miller cleared the bases on a triple to center that evened the score at 8.
Two pitches later, Levi Clise walked it off on a RBI sacrifice fly to center.
Swindle led the Miners going 3 for 4 with two stolen bases.
John Delaney and Miller each had two hits with Miller adding four RBIs.
John Wood got the win, allowing one earned run off two hits with no walks and three strikeouts across two innings.
Conner Maconaughey led Berkeley Springs with two hits and four RBIs.
