COLLEGE PARK — Three area golfers competed at the Class 2A/1A state golf championship at the University of Maryland on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Northern freshman Wyatt Johnson finished in 15th place, shooting 160.
Johnson was one of seven freshmen to compete and finished with the fourth-lowest score.
Allegany junior Treah Grassi finished tied for 24th with Rising Sun’s Lucas Kilgore, each carding 165.
Southern sophomore Carter Goff finished one stroke behind Grassi and Kilgore, placing 26th with a 166.
Kent County’s Quinten Joiner won the state title with a 143 while Winston Thomas from Southern Harwood placed second carding 150.
River Hill’s Michelle Young won the Class 2A/1A girls title shooting 141 with Harford Tech’s Olivia O’Conner in second at 160.
The Class 4A/3A boys individual champion was Broadneck’s Ben Coe with a 140 followed by Walt Whitman’s Alex Bruch at 149.
The Class 4A/3A girls title went to Winston Churchill’s Zoe Cusack with a 138 while Severna Park’s Nicole Chovenac was second carding 146.
The team champions were Manchester Valley (632) in Class 2A/1A and Winston Churchill (613) in 4A/3A.
